The clients were breaking ground in an upscale neighbourhood in Toronto; transforming an empty lot into their new address and dream home. Chestnut Grove Design Studio became involved in the project through a mutual friend, Steve. Steve has a long-standing relationship with the client and during one of his visits to their home had noticed a large set of blueprints spread across the table. Sparking conversation, the clients began to show Steve the plans for their new home. Every new home needs a kitchen and Steve expressed to the client that they needed to meet Principal Designer Francesco Giampietro and the Chestnut Grove Design Team.

From the first meeting there was a great connection! The clients envisioned a kitchen and butlers pantry design that would be both functional and aesthetically beautiful. The client had already decided that she wanted a blue and white two-tone kitchen but needed to find the perfect colours. Francesco and Interior Designer Cassandra Brandow, created a deep and rich hue of blue, resulting in the Chestnut Grove custom colour: Blue Macaroon which is complemented by the Chestnut Grove custom colour: Coconut Cream.

The new home would have an open concept floor plan and the kitchen design would have to make a statement while also complementing the adjacent dining area and great room. With a love for entertaining and hosting parties, movement and circulation through the space was the first design consideration while in the planning phase. It was important that the space around the kitchen island allowed two guests to travel past one another freely. The butler’s pantry was designed with busy caterers and chefs in mind. It is located centrally between the kitchen and formal dining area. A long stone counter top stretches from wall to wall below the butler’s pantry china cabinet. This area is spacious enough for all the behind the scene deliveries and plating. In the kitchen, the stone top below the display hutch serves as the perfect place to set up a dessert bar. The kitchen is equipped with two dishwashers, two garbage systems, a built-in fridge, and a built-in freezer.

A cooking utensil pull out is located to the right of the stove and there are plenty of storage drawers located throughout the design. These elements help to make cleaning and cooking in the space enjoyable and efficient. There is even a pocketing door system in the island which houses a custom designed serving trolley! The china cabinet in the butler’s pantry was designed to display seven set of china the clients had collected throughout the years. Every glass cabinet is lit with LED lighting and finished with a blue interior. The doors are adorned with seedy glass panels with a diamond leaded detail which complements the windows through out the house. With its bold blues and chic whites, the kitchen becomes a central gathering space that’s brimming with style and function for the clients. Plentiful storage, ample lighting and decorative display areas, allows the clients character to shine through, making this a timeless kitchen space.
