Antique Style Kitchen In A Century Home

Beadboard cabinetry, antique style kitchen

A sunlit kitchen in a century home in the greater Toronto area needed a complete makeover. The clients wanted to update their 26-year-old kitchen décor, including cabinets, flooring and countertops, with a charming antique inspired look. Drawing inspiration from the homeowner’s collection of antiques, designers Francesco Giampietro and Cassandra Brandow came up with a design that includes elements that fit with the character of the home. The lower cabinetry is beadboard painted in Coconut Cream with a hand rubbed Chocolate Glaze while the upper cabinetry in the same colour, is dry brushed to achieve the antiqued look the clients are after.

With two large dogs in the house, the client’s daughter suggested building a cabinet to conceal the food and water bowls when not in use. Brandow and Giampietro designed a standalone solid wood cabinet with a rich brown patina finish in the custom colour, Bourbon Coffee. The hardware selected is oil-rubbed bronze for an aged, yet classic design. The lower two drawer’s pull-out revealing storage for the dry dog food and an aluminum base to support the food and water bowls, making feeding time convenient and best of all – better for the dogs!
